displays a jaundiced and cynical eye and comes from an author who "has her whole life in front of her." It causes one to question what it is in our culture that encourages, in such a young woman, a sensibility that makes Studs Terkel seem as Pollyannic as a pep-rally sponsored by Mary Baker Eddy.
